Radford Set Sights at East Carolina

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's basketball team has its sight set on a Saturday afternoon matchup with East Carolina at 2 p.m., inside Williams Arena.

Radford (0-3) dropped a pair of contests last time out to Norfolk State and James Madison. Quinton Morton-Robertson highlighted the Norfolk State game making his first appearance of the 2020-21 season and he picked up 12 points.

Freshman Fah'Mir Ali notched a season-high 15 points against James Madison and Lewis Djonkam collected his first double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds – both career-highs.

Radford is averaging 38.3 rebounds per game and are outrebounding its opponents by six (32.0). Chyree Walker leads the team averaging seven rebounds per game.

East Carolina enters with a 2-0 record with wins over Charlotte and North Carolina Wesleyan.

ECU is outscoring opponents 78.5 to 59.5 and is shooting just over 50 percent as a team. However, opponents have a better 3-point percentage than the Pirates. ECU is shooting just 28.9 percent beyond the arc and opponents are shooting 31.3.

Jayden Gardner and Tristen Newton lead ECU offensively. Gardner is shooting 69.2 percent from the floor and is averaging 22.5 points per outing. Newton is second on the team in scoring with 13.0 and is averaging 7.0 rebounds.

This will be the 10^th overall meeting between Radford and East Carolina. The Highlanders trail the all-time series with East Carolina, 4-5. The last time the two schools met was in 2017 and the Highlanders won 73-66.
