Radford Geared Up for Home Opener Against Mars Hill

Radford, Va. – The Radford men's basketball team is geared up for its home opener with Mars Hill set for a 2 p.m. tip on Wednesday at the Dedmon Center.

The Highlanders and Lions were originally scheduled to meet up on December 2nd, but the game was postponed due to COVID-19 issues with the Lions.

Radford (0-4) dropped a road match against East Carolina their last time out. Radford outscored East Carolina, 26-22 inside the paint, but the Pirates scored 17 points off Radford's 14 turnovers.

A pair of freshmen have seen action in all four games this season and both of them rank inside Radford's top 3 in scoring. Fah'Mir Ali has started in three of the four games this season and is averaging 10.8 points and 2.5 assists, both team-highs. Xavier Lipscomb is averaging 21.5 minutes and is third on the team with 6.8 points per outing. He's second on the team with a 56.3 field goal percentage.

Quinton Morton-Robertson has made his 2020-21 season so far, so good. The hometown sophomore has started two of the three games he's played but has made three 3-pointers in each contest. His three 3-pointers per game rank 50th in the NCAA and are currently fourth in the Big South. He also ranks second in the league in total 3-pointers made per game with nine.

Mars Hill has yet to play a game so far this season. The team brings six seniors to the court with redshirt-junior Javonte Cooke highlighting the team after being selected to the preseason South Atlantic Conference second team. In Cooke's two seasons at Mars Hill, he has averaged 14 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per game.

The teams are now paired up against each other for just the second time in program history, with the last matchup coming on New Year's Day in 2019 where the Highlanders won decidedly, 80-51.

Only players families are allowed to attend the game. The game can be seen on ESPN+ or heard on WRAD 101.7 FM or WVRU 89.9 FM. If fans want to have their faces in attendance, they can purchase a cut-out HERE.
