HIGHLANDERS BEAT PIRATES ON SENIOR DAY TO SECURE TWO SEED

RADFORD, Va. – Radford (18-11, 14-6 BSC) defeated Hampton (17-12, 15-5 BSC) on Saturday afternoon in the season finale, on senior day. The Highlanders victory over the Pirates not only puts the season series at 1-1 but also secures Radford the two seed in the upcoming Big South Women's Basketball Tournament.
Leading the way for Radford were double-doubles from Aiden Rainford and Amele Ngwafang, as well as 18-points for senior Khiana Johnson.
The Pirates raced out to a 21-point start and added 15-points in the second stanza while holding the Highlanders to a 15-point outing. Radford battled back and posted a 17-piece in the second period. Hampton entered the half leading by four, 36-32. Both teams were shooting above 40 percent from the floor with Radford's advantage coming at the free throw line at 80 percent.
The Pirates kept the edge in the third period, with a 17-15 lead. However, everything changed in the fourth.
Radford mounted an 8-2 rally to bring the game to a tie 55 all, thanks to a layup by Johnson in the paint. But, Hampton never really went away. Free throws from Makayla Timmons brought the Pirates within two at 63-61 with 2:44 seconds left. But free throws from Johnson, Rainford, and Ngwafang sealed the 70-63 victory.
Hampton was led by Timmons with 23-points, but had a total of three finish the game in double-digits. Nylah Young and Dlayla Chakolis combined for 25-points and 13 rebounds.
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHT
Radford honored their three seniors in Jen Falconer, Sydney Nunley, and Johnson prior to tip-off. The trio combined for 31-points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE TROUBLE
For just her second career double-double, Rainford ensured the victory with a team and career high 19-points and 10 rebounds. She also added a steal, two blocks, and an assist.
Joining her was Ngwafang, for her seventh career double-double. Her 10 points and 11 rebounds were crucial, in her 17 minutes played today.

Radford notched 34-points in the paint with the bench providing a solid 18-points.
