Highlanders Hit the Road for Midweek Clash with Campbell

RADFORD, Va. – In a surprise schedule change, the Radford men's basketball team will head to Buies Creek and clash with Campbell for a back-to-back series on Tuesday and Wednesday. Each game is set to begin at 7 p.m.

Radford and Campbell were originally selected to play on Feb. 4 and 5. The schedule change comes after the Campbell vs. Hampton series was postponed due to a pause within the Hampton program for COVID-19 concerns.

Radford (8-6, 7-1 Big South) enters with a four-game winning streak with a most recent stellar performance on both sides of the ball against Charleston Southern. In its last game out, Radford held CSU to 48 points, which is one of the lowest points allowed against a Big South opponent in program history.

In the last four games, the team is averaging 75.5 points contests and only allowing 60.8 points per game. Radford is shooting 50.5 percent and holding opponents to 37.2 percent through that stretch. The team is also out-rebounding other teams by an average of 13.3 boards.

Fah'Mir Ali leads all players with 14.8 points per game, while Dravon Mangum (12.0) and Lewis Djonkam (10.8) are the others scoring in double-figures through the winning streak. Chyree Walker is averaging 8.8 rebounds through the four-game stretch as well.

Ali leads the team with 11.2 points per game this season and he also leads the team with 12.6 points in conference games. The 12.6 points in conference games are 13th best in the Big South and the most by a freshman.

The 7-1 start in Big South play is tied for best start through eight conference games in the Mike Jones era. The 2018-19 team also started 7-1 and eventually began the conference slate with a 10-1 record, marking the best Big South start in Jones' tenure.

Campbell (8-7, 4-4 Big South) enters winning three of its last four contests, including a sweep of Presbyterian last week. The first was a close, low-scoring affair that saw the Camels win 48-46. The second was a bit more lopsided as Campbell won 73-51, with a 21-point effort by Cedric Henderson, Jr.

Henderson Jr., leads the team with 15.0 points per game, while Jordan Whitfield is not far behind with 14.1. Whitfield is also second on the team with 2.8 assists per game, while Henderson Jr., has a team-high 4.3 rebounds per game. However, Whitfield leads the team in conference-only scoring with 14.6 points per outing.

As a team, Campbell is averaging 72.3 points per game and holding opponents to 70.7. In conference games the Camels are shooting a conference-best 50.8 percent from the field and 39.8 percent from 3-point range.

Radford leads the overall series 24-20 and has won three of the last five meetings, but only four of the last 10. Radford swept the Camels last year by an average of nine points between the two games. On the road, the Camels lead the series, 13-8.
