Radford Continues Conference Road Swing at USC Upstate

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's basketball team continues its three-game Big South road trip Friday evening when it begins a two-game series at USC Upstate. Tipoff in Friday's opening game is scheduled for 6 p.m., while Saturday's series finale will tip at 4 p.m.

The Highlanders are seeking to return to winning ways after dropping their last contest Tuesday evening at Hampton, 66-51. Radford does have history on its side in this series, having won all four contests since USC Upstate joined the Big South. Radford is 6-1 all-time against the Spartans.

LAST TIME OUT
Makaila Wilson had a season-high 19 points, including five 3-pointers, in the loss to the Pirates, while Kyanna Morgan established career-highs of 14 points and eight rebounds in the contest. Radford struggled to find success against Hampton's stingy defense, as the Pirates forced 25 Highlander turnovers and converted them into 26 points.

Hampton built a double-digit lead in the first quarter, which proved to be the difference in the game. Despite a pair of lengthy Radford scoring runs, the Pirates had an answer for every basket on their way to a win over the visiting Highlanders.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
USC Upstate enters the weekend at 5-12 overall and 3-9 in Big South play. The Spartans are ushering in a new era this season, with former Charleston (W.Va.) head coach Becky Burke taking over the reins of the program. USC Upstate has earned a series split in each of its last two series, taking a game apiece against Hampton and Gardner-Webb.

Denijsha Wilson leads the Spartans with 12.2 points and 3.0 per game. McKinley Brooks Sumter is second on the team in scoring at 11.2 points per game and leads Upstate with 6.3 rebounds per contest.

UP NEXT
Following the two-game series against the Spartans, Radford returns home to host preseason Big South favorite Campbell for a two-game set beginning Feb. 4.
