Second Half Outburst Fuels Win Over UNC Asheville

RADFORD, VA. – The Radford women's soccer team saw its offense reignite in a 6-0 winning effort against UNC Asheville in front of the Cupp Stadium faithful Wednesday night.

After being shut out in back-to-back matches the Highlanders responded with one of their best offensive showings of the season. The scoring got started thanks to Kat Parris who found the back of the net in the 17th minute. Alexeis Kirnos provided her first assist on the night in the goal, finding Parris just outside the box.

Radford would exit the first half with a 1-0 lead, saving most of their scoring for the second half. Parris scored her second goal of the game, her tenth total goal of the season, just 20 seconds into the second half making it a 2-0 game. Katie Oliver assisted the goal, also her first of the night.

The Highlanders were held quiet for about seven more minutes until they exploded for four goals in just 12 minutes. The offensive outburst began as Lily McLane broke through the UNC Asheville defense off the pass from Helena Willson. It became a 4-0 game when Reese Degnan found the back of the net for the second time this season after a good pass from Brianna Oliver.

Radford's fifth goal of the night came from a beautiful header by Kirnos off the great pass from K. Oliver on the opposite side of the field. The final goal of the night was a first of the season for Ashley Pandelides with Kirnos adding her second assist of the game and finishing with four points.

KEY STATS
  • The offensive pressure continued for the Highlanders as it had the last two games and the scoresheet finally broke open. Radford out-shot UNC Asheville 23-6 and booted seven more corners than their opponent.
  • Parris is knocking on the door of the Radford record books after two goals tonight. With 10 goals this season she sits just three goals outside the single-season top-ten list and with 25 points she sits just six away from entering the single-season top-ten list.
  • Radford as a team has been destroying opponents in the second half all season. Tonight's five goals increased their season total to 25 second-half goals which already ranks tied for eighth-most in program history. No Radford team has broken into the top-ten of this category since 2002.
  • McLane and B. Oliver both sit at double-digit points this season with 14 each. Kirnos also doubled her point total in tonight's game alone from four to eight on the season.
  • Radford now owns a 26-8-3 edge in the series history against UNC Asheville.

QUOTABLE
"I was extremely happy to see us bounce back after two disappointing losses. I think we played well for 90 minutes, and I think that's been a bit of our problem this year. I was happy to see us move the ball we did tonight, create scoring chances and finish our opportunities. I'm really proud of our defense for getting the shutout. I look forward to moving on to the next game." -Head Coach Ben Sohrabi
