Okawa Earns Second Big South Freshman of the Week Nod

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second time this season, forward Yoshiya Okawa has been named Big South Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

The Tokyo, Japan native made his presence known immediately in the Radford Men's Soccer match at Winthrop on Saturday night. Just 26 seconds in, he intercepted an errant pass, took two touches to his left, and curled a shot perfectly past the diving keeper to put the Highlanders up, 1-0.

Okawa then doubled the Radford lead and secured a brace with a beautifully taken free kick in the 12th minute that snuck inside the near post.

His effort brings his debut season totals up to six goals and 13 points, putting him in the top 10 for nearly every offensive statistical category in the Big South.

He and the Highlanders will have one final shot at making an impression in the regular season when they host Longwood at Cupp Stadium this Thursday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m.
