SERIES HISTORY
The Highlanders and Thundering Herd have 24 games of history between the two. There is much wiggle room in the series record, as Marshall holds a slight edge with 13 wins in those 24 games. Marshall and Radford first met in 1976 and most recently played each other in 2020. Marshall won the last contest 69-58 in a game that neither team controlled until the final minutes. Rachel LaLonde and Ashley Tudor combined for 20 points while Bryonna McClean led the team on the boards with five offensive rebounds.

SCOUTING THE THUNDERING HERD
Sunday's game will be Marshall's first game of the season against a Division I opponent after opening the season with a 108-45 drubbing of Bluefield State. Marshall saw six players hit double-digit point totals with Aaliyah Dunham flirting with a triple-double while fueling the offense with seven assists, six steals and 17 points. Preseason All-Conference Conference USA selection Savannah Wheeler pulled down four rebounds while scoring 14 points.

Marshall was picked to finish ninth in the C-USA preseason poll with 85 points beating out teams like Florida Atlantic, UAB, Western Kentucky and Southern Miss in the rankings. Wheeler is the top returner for the Thundering Herd after totaling 323 points last season, but the team also returns Alexis Johnson who totaled over 100 points and rebounds in the 2020-21 season.

SNEAKING UP ON 100
With two assists last Wednesday night against Pittsburgh, Bryonna McClean continues to march her way towards 100 career assists. The Virginia Beach, Va. native sees her total currently sit at 83 despite a shortened junior campaign during the 2020-21 season. Bridget Birkhead is also close to 100 career assists in her collegiate career with her total currently at 82 after averaging 25 assists a season her last three years.

In the career point column, Kyanna Morgan is just three points away from her 100th point after scoring 11 against Pittsburgh earlier this week with three three-pointers. Taiye Johnson recorded her 100th point against Pittsburgh as well with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter on a made free throw.

SCORING FROM DEEP
The 2021-22 season is only one game deep for the Highlanders so far but there are already signs of a revitalized attack from beyond the arc to be aware. Morgan leads the Big South with a 75% three-point shooting percentage while the team as a whole put up a 39% mark at Pittsburgh last Wednesday night. The freshman Carmen Williams immediately made her presence known on the big stage with back-to-back threes against Pittsburgh in the fourth quarter earlier this week.
