Radford Defeats Hampton To Split Season Series

HAMPTON, Va. – The Radford (6-10, 6-8 BSC) women's basketball team defeated Hampton (4-9, 4-7 BSC) on Tuesday night to split the season series at one win each. The offensive effort was paced by Bryonna McClean's first career double-double.

The teams reached double digit scoring to conclude the first period, with the Highlanders holding the slight edge over the Pirates at 12-11. However, Hampton battled back to conclude the opening half deadlocked with Radford at 24 all.

The defensive intensity for the Highlanders amplified in the third period as they held the Pirates to only six points. In that same stanza they were able to put some distance between them and the opposition offensively with 13 points of their own. An and-one momentum play from junior McClean was all it took for Radford to get fired up. The score teetered back-and-forth until a fast break layup from Rachel LaLonde broke the seal for the Highlanders and the offense began to flow. Ariel Williams' layup and two successful trips to the free throw line by Kyanna Morgan pushed Radford's lead to 37-30 heading into the fourth.

In the Pirates were held to 12-points in the final period of play, with the visitors being able to notch 16 total. Morgan commenced the stanza with another set of free throws, adding to her team's mounting lead. Down the stretch Makaila Wilson came alive for Radford and drained her signature three-ball while adding free throws and a layup. McClean pressed the issue, ensuring her team's victory with free throws and paint points of her own.

Hampton was led by Shawn Mills with 12 points and five rebounds through her 24 minutes of play.
