Highlanders Sweep Buccaneers in Electrifying Overtime Victory

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford (8-10, 8-8 BSC) women's basketball team took the season series from Charleston Southern (6-16, 4-14 BSC) on Sunday afternoon in an overtime bout at 76-67. The Highlanders are now 1-1 in overtime games this season.
Radford had the initial lead going into the intermission at 30-29 over Charleston Southern. The Buccaneers were able to hold the Highlanders to only 13 points in the third stanza, while putting up 15 points of their own.
The teams were point for point to commence the fourth period until Charleston Southern was able to piece together a six-point lead. Radford flipped that momentum with a jumper from Taiye Johnson and an and-one fast break play from Bryonna McClean to give the home team the premature 56-54 lead. However, free throws from the Bucs' Sharita Godfrey evened the score at 56 all with about six minutes remaining in regulation.
A seven-point swing for the visitors ensued as Radford responded in-kind with a five-point addition to their cause. Free throws from Charleston Southern with 17 seconds in regulation put the lead at 65-61 for the Bucs. Two seconds later, Destinee Marshall's paint jumper would cut the deficit to only two points at 65-63. Charleston Southern called timeout. On the baseline, Marshall to inbound and she finds her fellow freshman Ashley Tudor breaking to the basket. Tudor's layup is good with two seconds to go, forcing overtime with the score deadlocked at 65 all.
Overtime belonged to the Highlanders, as they held the Buccaneers to only a pair of points which were free throws. Makaila Wilson knocked down her paint jumper and Tudor followed suite with back-to-back baskets. Radford now led 71-65 over Charleston Southern. Danielle Montelbano, Wilson, and Marshall all combined to wrap up the scoring for the Highlanders.
The Buccaneers were led by Alyssia Faye with 21 points and a double-double Carmella Walker at 11 points and 10 rebounds.

For her first career double-double, Tudor tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The lead changed a total of 15 times with seven ties.
