REWRITING THE RECORD BOOK
The Highlanders set multiple records in the 128-24 win over NAIA-level Bluefield on Wednesday night at the Dedmon Center. The 104-point margin of victory was a Big South and program record. The previous Big South record was a 102-point win by Presbyterian over Bluefield on December 20, 2022. The previous program record was a 131-38 win over Bluefield back on December 9, 1975. The 128 points scored were also a Dedmon Center record – the previous high was 111 set vs. Baptist (now Charleston Southern) on January 9, 1988. Radford's 69 points in the first half broke the previous record of 59 points in a half, set against UNC Asheville on February 13, 2010. Other records include most field goals made (48, previous of 44 vs. Baptist on February 26, 1990), most turnovers by a team in a game (41, previous was 40 by Radford vs. William & Mary on February 23, 1985), and most steals (28, previous was 26 vs. Charlotte on January 3, 1988). Cherish Haywood's nine steals tied the single-game record, set by Stephanie Howard on December 12, 1987, against Augusta.
A NICE START
Angelina Nice tied for the team lead in scoring at Clemson (12 points) and led the team with a career-best 25 points against Bluefield on Wednesday. The junior also had a November to remember last season, scoring a then career-best 23 points vs. Loyola (Md.) on the 11th and being named to the Cleveland State Invite All-Tournament Team. Nice is also Radford's first Kay Yow Cancer Fund Servant Leader, which recognizes student-athletes who put others first in their communities, teams, and campus.
AIR JORDIN
Jordin Richardson totaled 21 points in Wednesday's win, the second-most on the team. She's the first true freshman since Ashlyn Traylor-Walker in 2022 to drop 20 in a game – the program's first Traylor-Walker did so against Emory & Henry in her second career game.
SCOUTING REPORT
EKU was picked to finish second in the United Athletic Conference (UAC). They fell 90-89 to UT Martin to open the season before securing a 63-58 win at Morehead State on Thursday night. Radford's Logan Luebbers Palmer reunites with high school teammate Liz Freihofer, who was named preseason first-team all-conference for the Colonels. EKU Head Coach Greg Todd led the Colonels to a third-straight 20-win season and a regular-season ASUN championship.
THE HISTORY BOOK
Radford is 1-4 all time against EKU. They last met on November 23, 2024, a game which was all Colonels, 87-40. The loss at the time was Radford's fifth straight and is Mike McGuire's biggest loss to a non-major opponent. Only Cate Carlson and Nice remain on the team from that contest. Radford's lone win over EKU came back on November 14, 1981, by a 71-68 final – which was a month before the Dedmon Center opened, and three seasons before the Highlanders made the transition to NCAA Division I.
