2/26/2021 8:51:00 PM | Women's Basketball
RADFORD, Va. – The Radford (9-11, 9-9 BSC) women's basketball team battled against Campbell (12-6, 9-4 BSC) in the season series finale inside the Dedmon Center, falling 53-50. The Highlanders' 21-point fourth period offensive outburst proved not enough to take the contest.
The Camels raced out to a quick 20-9 lead after the first period. However, Radford was able to regain some semblance of control in the second stanza.
The scoring started off with a successful trip to the free throw line for Taiye Johnson and was followed later by a three-pointer from Makaila Wilson. After a Campbell paint bucket, the home team would go on an 8-2 run to conclude the period cutting the Camel lead to 26-22.
After intermission the visitors regroup and maintained control of the third period, doubling Radford's output 14-7.
Campbell commenced the final period of play with free throws and a layup which positioned them with a lead of 44-31. The Highlanders' defensive effort picked up and led to efficient offensive execution. A three ball from Shyanne Tuelle around the eight-minute mark put the Camel lead, at its largest of the night, at 14 points. The freshmen trio of Kyanna Morgan, Ashley Tudor, and Danielle Montelbano combined for seven points down the stretch which put the game at 47-40. Another rally of eight points later in the period allowed the Highlanders to get within one of the opposition at 49-48. Several sets of free throws gave Campbell the cushion needed to take the game at 53-50, after a last second jumper from Tudor.
Tuelle ran the Camel offense with 16 points, two steals, four rebounds, and two assists through her 38 minutes on the court.
