Radford Gets Back to Dominant Form at Tennessee State

NASHVILLE, TENN. – Radford (3-2) dominated their way to a win over Tennessee State (0-6) on Wednesday afternoon to pick up their second road win of the season.

The quick victories started in doubles play with Radford cruising to victories on all three courts. The duo of Demis Taramonlis and Andres Silva won 6-1 on court two. Konstantinos Raptis and Aditya Balsekar also picked up the win on court three with the same 6-1 score. On the top flight the Highlanders were again victorious with Yevhen Sirous and Guilherme Severin winning 6-3.

Silva was the first of the Highlanders to finish in singles play, cruising to a 6-3, 6-0 win on court five to give Radford the 2-0 lead. Raptis kept up the strong performance with a 6-4, 6-4 victory on court four. Clinching the match was Sirous after taking court one 7-6(0), 6-2. Sirous' win was his second straight win on the top singles flight during the current road trip.

Finishing up the day were three more singles courts won by Radford. Taramonlis dominated 6-2, 6-0 on court two while Severin similarly was strong on court three winning 6-1, 6-1. The last court of the day to finish was the sixth one which was held onto by the freshman Balsekar. Balsekar took the first set 6-3 but dropped the second set 6-7 before battling back to take the court with a 7-6(8) tiebreaker win.

William Crane also saw his first action of the road trip battling in an exhibition match to the tune of an 8-2 win.

The Highlanders' 7-0-win marks their first sweep of a division one opponent since March 12 during the 2020 season when they swept Norfolk State during their spring break trip in South Carolina on a neutral court. The last time Radford swept a division one opponent in a true road match was at Hampton during the 2019 season.
