Women’s Soccer Ties Gardner-Webb in Scoreless Night

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – A battle between two defensive teams in the top third of the conference ended in a 0-0 tie on Sunday night in Boiling Springs, N.C.

Radford (3-1-1, 2-1-1 Big South) had 20 shots, which is the most against a Division I opponent this season, but none of them found the back of the net. Eight of the Highlanders 20 shots were on frame and Alexeis Kirnos led all players with five shots.

Maintaining most of possession Highlanders had eight shots each in the first and second half. With plenty of chances to score by Radford, Gardner-Webb did a nice job on the defensive end and had five saves in the first half.

Radford took three shots in the final 10 minutes of the game. The first went wide, the second was saved and the third was blocked. That forced the first overtime period.

After just one shot in the first overtime period, the Highlanders took three in the final overtime period. Two of them came by Katie Oliver in the 108' and 109'. The first went wide and the second one was saved by GWU's Katelyn Kellogg.

Ten different Highlanders took shots in the game and six of the players took more than one shot. Lexi Dean had two saves in the full 110 minutes. She was one of six players to play the full 110 minutes.

Quotable
The saying is, draw on the road and win at home," Ben Sohrabi said. "Tonight I think we played well enough to win on the road. We had a couple key opportunities that we didn't convert and when you get those chances you have to capitalize. Definitely happy about our defensive effort but should have scored a goal."
