Radford Blanks Charleston Southern

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer team blanked Charleston Southern, 2-0, on Sunday inside Cupp Stadium.

Radford (4-1-1, 3-1-1 Big South) took a big step in the standings with a win. The Highlanders only took five shots in the first half, but one was able to find the back of the net and it came from Brianna Oliver.

Alexeis Kirnos took a shot that bounced off a defender and rainbowed forward to Oliver. She popped it over a defender to herself and ripped a shot that gave Radford an early lead in the 31'.

Radford came back in the first half and fired seven shots, while holding Charleston Southern to just two. The second Radford goal came in the 81' when Kayla Thomas – playing a more offensive role – made a move past a CSU defender and found Katie Oliver inside right inside the penalty box. Oliver fired a shot to the left side of the keeper for a score.

The goal gave insurance to Radford, but the Highlanders maintained possession for a majority of the remaining time in the game. It was also K. Oliver's first career goal as a Highlander.

Lexi Dean played all 90 minutes in goal and accrued three saves. Kayla Thomas led with five shots that included all five on frame. The five shots are a career-high for the junior. Gabi Paupst was the only other Highlander with a multi-shot game.
