Goeller’s Hat Trick Highlights Radford’s Match at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Radford (0-9) started strong but came up short in a rainy game at Virginia Tech (3-5) Tuesday afternoon.

Radford got off to a strong start in the first 15 minutes of the match. After Virginia Tech scored the first two goals of the game, Radford responded by going on a 4-0 run. Ava Goeller scored her first two goals of the match while Margaret Gleason and Lindsey Carroll also added goals. Gleason and Carroll also assisted each other in their goals. From there, though, Virginia Tech went on an 8-0 run to close the half and take the lead.

In the second half Virginia Tech continued to score, but Goeller picked up her third goal of the game sealing the freshman's third hat trick of the season. Katie Bendrick led the team picking up two groundballs while also commanding nine draw controls and two caused turnovers. Bowman played the entire game in the net for Radford and recorded 13 more saves which put her at 80 saves this season and 212 in her career.

Overall, in the game the Highlanders successfully completed 8 of their 11 clear attempts while also tying the Hokies in draw controls with both teams controlling 13. The team also caused four turnovers, which was only two behind Virginia Tech.
