Highlanders Dominate Dukes in 7-0 Sweep

RADFORD, Va. – Radford (5-5) won just about everything in a 7-0 sweep over Commonwealth foe James Madison (4-4) on Wednesday afternoon.

The large amount of success for the day started in doubles where the Highlanders took two of three courts with ease to seal the 1-0 lead. The pairing of Aditya Balsekar and Konstantinos Raptis were the first to finish in a 6-2 win on court three. On the top court Yevhen Sirous and Guilherme Severin won their game 6-3 to clinch. Demis Taramonlis and Andres Silva came up close and forced a tiebreaker, but that ended up being James Madison's only win on the day.

In singles play it was Taramonlis who quickly finished first on court two, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. Balsekar kept up his hot play as of late with another straight sets win on court six winning 7-6(4), 6-3 to give Radford the 3-0 lead and just one win from clinching.

The clinch came from none other than Raptis who held on to win on court four 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Silva also had a scare but held on to win court five 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Radford got its sixth point of the day on court one as Sirous battled hard and fought back to win 6-3, 6(1)-7, 10-3. Finishing off the day and the sweep was Severin who came back from dropping his first set to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Balsekar picked up his team-leading eighth win of the season in singles, his seventh while playing on court six. Sirous and Severin now hold the best record in doubles at 5-4 for Radford, while Taramonlis and Raptis picked up their second straight singles victories.
