Radford Falls to High Point in Battle of Top Two Teams

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer team fell to High Point in a battle of the top two teams at Cupp Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The game began with a lot of intensity as both teams had early fouls. High Point controlled most of the possession in the first half and eventually scored a goal in the 27th minute by Sam Gerhart that came off a corner kick and barely made it across the goal line. High Point tallied five shots and Radford made some quality saves to keep the game scoreless early.

Radford (5-2-1, 4-2-1 Big South) flipped the script in the second half and controlled most of the possession. The heavy possession led to three good looks, but none found the back of the net. The first came from Ashley Pandelides in the 67' but was wide left. She had the goalkeeper out of position with just a defender in front of the goal but pushed it wide.

The second came ten minutes later as Alexeis Kirnos had a good look with no defenders around her but she missed high. The last and potentially best chance came when Izzy Armstrong beat all the defenders and had a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Morgan Hairston made herself bigger by coming out on the attack. She didn't allow the shot to go too far and suffocated the ball as soon as it was kicked. That final chance came in the 88'.

Radford had six shots in the second half and each team ended with eight. Lexi Dean made four saves, including one in the 50' to keep the game close.

Quotable
"It was a great game today," Ben Sohrabi said. "Very intense and competitive for both sides. I was proud of our effort today and did enough to deserve a goal. We have to finish when we get golden opportunities versus a team as good as High Point. I do think we played well though today."
