Women’s Soccer Tops Longwood on Senior Day

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer team took down an unbeaten Longwood team, 2-0, on Saturday as the seniors were honored prior to kick-off.

The two goals were off set pieces and the first came in the fourth minute. Alexeis Kirnos took advantage of a handball that was called in the box. The Lancer goalkeeper was able to get a couple hands on it but it went through her mitts for the game's first goal.

The Highlanders added to their lead 29 minutes later off another set piece. Lily McLane played a corner kick in that found Maevyn Jones who played it back to McLane. Izzy Armstrong was able to get a head on it and finish for the second goal of the game.

With a two-goal lead, the Highlander defense buckled down and only allowed one shot in the second half. It came in the 66' but missed wide.

The time ran out and the Highlanders put themselves in great position to host a Big South Tournament semifinal game.

Radford had 11 shots with Kirnos leading the way firing four shots – two on goal. Gabi Paupst was the other Highlander with a multi-shot performance. Jones and McLane were credited with assists.
