SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Radford women's soccer team dominated from start to finish in a 7-0 victory over Wofford on Friday night. The rout marks the program's largest victory over a Division I opponent since a 10-0 win over South Carolina State on Sept. 22, 2007.
Six different Highlanders etched their name on the score sheet, beginning with freshman
Kat Parris in the 36
thminute. A long ball over the top from
Helena Willson bounced off a defender and fell right in line for Parris to head it home.
Then, less than two minutes later, Parris turned into the provider when she connected with Oliver. The play began with another Willson pass into the box which got lost in a scrum of players before Oliver hit the back of the net.
It was an impressive first 45 minutes for Radford, but the floodgates truly opened in the second half.
Lily McLane made it 3-0 in the 48
th minute with her first goal of the year, followed by a header off the noggin of
Izzy Armstrong that was crossed in by non-other than McLane.
Alexeis Kirnos built on a strong preseason showing by launching an absolute rocket into the right upper corner of the net off of a free kick in the 65
th minute.
Brianna Oliver secured a brace on the night in the 73
rd minute and
Maevyn Jones capped off the evening with a goal in the 85
th minute.
