Highlanders Blow Past Keydets in Final Non-Conference Game

RADFORD, VA. – The Radford women's soccer team finished their nonconference season with a strong 5-1 victory over VMI on Thursday night.

The first half saw seven different Highlanders make their way onto the score sheet as Radford exploded for a 3-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of the game. Radford's first goal of the game came off the foot of freshman Kat Parris. Saleena Lynch threw the ball in perfectly to Brianna Oliver who placed it perfectly to Parris in the box for the 1-0 lead.

Lily McLane extended her games with an assist streak tonight, but she also added a goal in the 12th minute assisted by Katie Oliver. Just under two minutes later the Highlanders would strike once again thanks to Izzy Armstrong with the strong left-footer assisted by McLane. This would cement a 3-0 lead for the Highlanders that would stand until the end of the half.

One goal wasn't enough for Parris as she would open the scoring again for the Highlanders in the second half. Just before the 54th minute Parris placed another perfect shot that the goalie didn't even attempt to save. Amy Swain picked up an assist in the goal, marking the eighth Highlander make their way onto the score sheet.

With less than a minute to go VMI broke up the shutout, but Radford responded with a goal of their own to finalize the 5-1 score. Anais Oularbi picked up the first goal of her career as a Highlander while Alexeis Kirnos provided the assist.

QUOTABLE
"I thought we played well tonight; it was good to end our nonconference season on a high note. Thought we scored some nice goals tonight and moved the ball well at times. I was a little disappointed to not get the shutout in the end but overall, it was a great game. I think it gives us a lot of confidence headed into our conference season." – Head Coach Ben Sohrabi.

UP NEXT
Conference play will begin for the Highlanders with two crucial road matches next week against preseason top-five Big South programs in Longwood and Campbell.
