Women’s Soccer Drops Match to Gardner-Webb

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Radford women's soccer team fell to Gardner-Webb 0-2 Wednesday night in their first Big South game at home.
 
The Radford offense dominated the first half offensively despite not finding the back of the net. The team combined for 16 shots and six corner kicks outpacing the Runnin' Bulldogs by a wide margin in both categories.
 
Gardner-Webb opened the second half strong, however, with two goals that proved to be the decider. The Highlanders' offense had multiple good looks late in the game but couldn't convert and fell victim to some strong play by the opposing goalie.

  • Tonight's loss snapped four straight games where Radford did not lose to Gardner-Webb. Radford still leads the series history 10-7-2.
  • Radford got off 25 shots tonight, their highest total of the season without a goal.
  • Tonight's match was the first match of the season where Radford did not score a goal, snapping a streak of 12 games scoring at least one goal.

"It's a disappointing loss at home. All credit to Gardner-Webb they came in with a great game plan. They came out a bit better in the second half than we did and made us pay. There were times in the game where I thought we played well and created good chances but we've got to finish those opportunities. At this point all we can do is regroup and get ready for Saturday." – Head Coach Ben Sohrabi.

UP NEXT
Radford will look to get back to the win column when they hit the road for Spartanburg, S.C. to face USC Upstate. Radford scored seven goals in Spartanburg earlier this season when they faced Wofford.
