Offense Explodes Again as Highlanders Swat Hornets

RADFORD, VA. – The Radford women's soccer team exploded for eight goals in a winning effort Saturday night as they took down Delaware State. The 8-0 win is the largest home victory against a Division I opponent for the Highlanders since beating South Carolina State 10-0 in 2007.

The scoring got started early as just eight minutes into the game it was none other than freshman Kat Parris getting the Highlanders on the board. Brianna Oliver placed the pass perfectly into the middle of the box allowing for Parris to sneak it past the goalie for her third goal of the season. This goal tied Parris for the team-lead with B. Oliver, and the two would go on to battle for the team-lead all night.

Helena Willson notched her first goal of the season at the 23rd minute with a shot taken about 30 yards out. Lily McLane aided the goal which marked three straight games with an assist for McLane. Radford would go into the half with a 2-0 lead before exploding in the second half similar to their match against Wofford just a week ago.

Just five minutes into the second half, B. Oliver reclaimed her team-lead in goals with her fourth of the season aided by Alexeis Kirnos. Parris would score her fourth goal of the season five minutes after that, moving into a tie once again for the team-lead in goals. B. Oliver and Parris' four goals are most in the Big South.

Reese Degnan would score her first goal of the season at the 60th minute taking a pass from Lauren Seedlock all the way from midfield and placing it in the back of the net with ease. Seven minutes later, Izzy Armstrong got into the scoring party forcing in a goal off a deflected shot from Degnan.

Maevyn Jones would make it 7-0 Highlanders thanks to a penalty kick. The final goal of the night belong to Armstrong, her second of the game. Bianca Plowman collected her first points on the season assisting the eighth and final goal. Armstrong now sits at three goals this season which ranks third in the Big South.

QUOTABLE
"
I thought we played well tonight. First half we created a couple of nice goals and I thought we moved the ball well. In the second half we really did a good job of possessing the ball and everyone wanting touches. We were good in all facets of the game especially in the second half. It was good to get a shutout, so now we're just moving on to the next one." – Head Coach Ben Sohrabi

UP NEXT
Radford will be on the road all next week as they have a pair of matches scheduled against Marshall (Sept. 9) and George Mason (Sept. 12).
