Women’s Basketball Returns Home to Host Longwood Saturday

RADFORD, Va. – The Highlanders have returned home and will host Commonwealth rival Longwood on Saturday. Tip is set for 2 p.m. at the Carilion Clinic Court inside the Dedmon Center.

SERIES HISTORY
Radford and Longwood have met 31 times with their first meeting coming all the way back in 1977. Longwood won the last two games against Radford last season with both contest being played in Farmville, Va. Before that two-game streak, the Highlanders had won 12 straight contests over the Lancers.

Bryonna McClean was one of the Highlanders' top point producers against Longwood last season scoring a total of 18 points over the pair of games. McClean also pulled down 11 rebounds and totaled five assists over the two-game stretch. Rachel LaLonde also had a pair of decent games totaling 16 points.

SCOUTING THE LANCERS
Longwood enters Saturday's game on a three-game winning streak with wins over Gardner-Webb, Winthrop and High Point. The Lancers have scored 75 or more points in all three contests as their dangerous offense continues to click on all levels.

Kyla McMakin, Akila Smith, and Tra'dayja Smith are all Lancers to watch out for. The trio all holds strong marks in separate Big South stat categories. McMakin is the league's top scorer scoring 18.7 points per game. Smith isn't far behind with 15.9 points per game but is one of the top blockers in the nation with 60 to her name. Lastly, Smith has already eclipsed the 100 assists mark this season with her total currently sitting at 103.

MORGAN SHOWS NO RUST
Kyanna Morgan showed no rust coming off the bench after missing the last two games last Thursday night. The sophomore hit three of four three-pointers she took to tally a tied for team-best nine points on the night. Morgan has been one of the Highlanders' best shooters from deep this season shooting at 53% with 17 made three-pointers which ranks second on the team.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
Radford has spent quite a bit of time away from the Dedmon Center over the last two calendar months. The road warriors have played nine of their last eleven games on the road with just two home games over that stretch. The Highlanders currently boast a 3-2 record on the home court this season with their best win coming back on December 1st against Furman.
 
ICYMI BIG SOUTH SCHEDULE CHANGES
Radford has had three games against Winthrop, High Point, and Hampton all postponed and rescheduled. Radford's road match at High Point has been moved to February 7th at 6 p.m. while the team will host Winthrop on February 17th at 6 p.m. The previously scheduled game at home against Hampton is still postponed without a make-up date determined.
