Volleyball Breaks Out The Brooms in 3-0 Sweep Against Presbyterian

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford volleyball team broke out the brooms for its first sweep of the season, beating Presbyterian in three straight sets at the Dedmon Center on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Highlanders improve to 6-10 overall and, more importantly, 2-2 in Big South play. Presbyterian meanwhile dropped to 4-12 on the year and 0-4 against conference foes.

The two-headed monster of Taylor Jefferson and Crystal Childs came to play once again, leading all players in the match with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Tytianna Roberts also boosted the Highlanders' attack, posting seven kills and zero errors.

Fiona Baker (18 assists) and Estella Sawyer (15 assists) shared setter duties and Shelby Hernandez, who led all players with 16 digs, also set her teammates up for seven assists.

After four straight high-scoring sets against Charleston Southern yesterday, Radford battled their way through another close set to begin this match. The Highlanders pulled together and then pulled away from the Blue Hose thanks to a solid .243 hitting percentage to win it 25-22.

The second set finally allowed the hosts to take a breath as they bested PC, 25-17, with an even better hitting percentage of .313. A trio of aces and two blocks in the set were also the best Radford had all day.

There are no easy games against Big South competition and Presbyterian refused to go quietly in the third set. A 22-15 Radford lead turned into a 23-20 game and had everyone sitting on the edge of their seats before the Highlanders finished the job with another 25-22 win.
