POWELLS POINT, N.C. – It was a tough go around of the Par 71, 6,587-yard Kilmarlic Golf Club course for Radford men's golf on Sunday as they sit tied for 14
th following one round of play.
All five Highlanders struggled to avoid bogeys or worse on any given hole, shooting a combined 311 (+27). The good news is that Radford wasn't the only team to face difficulties on the day; 15 out of 16 teams shot over par and five teams shot +20 or higher.
Making his third start in four tournament this fall,
Patrick Gareiss faired the best on the squad. The senior from Chesapeake, Va. consistently shot for par – suffering only a bogey on 11 and triple bogey on 6 – to shoot a 4-over par 75.
Bobby Dudeck was next up on the leaderboard, tying for 46
th with a 6-over par 77. He carded a trio of birdies on the 3
rd, 14
th and 18
th holes but three bogeys and three double bogeys slowed him down.
Nathan Piatt's 7-over 78 was good to tie for 59
th place. The Tampa transfer started strong with five consecutive pars, but then had his fair share of ups and downs throughout the rest of the round.
With a 10-over par 81,
Nicholas Taliaferro ended the day near the back of the pack for the men in red and white. He matched Dudeck with a team-high three birdies however, recording his one the 2
nd, 12
th, and 14
thholes.
