Willson Earns Big South Defensive Player of the Week Honor

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday afternoon that Helena Willson has been named Big South Defensive Player of the Week.

Willson helped the Highlanders defensive back line post its third straight shutout to end the regular season. Radford's been paced by the defense in three must-win matches in order to qualify for the Big South tournament.

The Leesburg, Va. native joins Saleena Lynch in the ranks of Highlanders to earn Big South Defensive Player of the Week Honors. Willson is the fifth different Highlander to earn a conference weekly award this season and sixth overall, tying the mark set by the 2021 squad weekly awards.

Radford is preparing to head to Matthews, N.C. for the semifinals of the Big South tournament. Radford and USC Upstate will face off in a rematch of an earlier meeting this season where the Trojans won 2-0 on the Highlanders' home turf. The game is currently set to kick off at 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
