Big South Play Begins for Women’s Basketball at Home Against UNC Asheville Thursday

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's basketball program opens Big South play against UNC Asheville inside the Dedmon Center this Thursday with tip set for 2 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
A historic series with the Bulldogs is renewed this Thursday as the two programs will face off for the 84th time. Radford owns the series edge 58-26, but the two teams have split every meeting dating back to 2019 trading wins and losses. Radford won the last meeting in the 2021-22 season inside Dedmon, winning 79-62 in the closing days of the regular season.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
UNC Asheville comes into Thursday's meeting trying to shake a five-game losing streak. The Bulldogs have a trio of talented scorers all averaging over eight points a game in McKinley Brooks-Sumpter (11.9), Jordaynia Ivie (9.7) and Mallory Bruce (8.0). Ivie also leads the program in assists (26) and steals (18).

Radford and UNC Asheville do have a pair of common non-conference opponents. Earlier this season the Bulldogs faced off against Queens and Furman, splitting the decisions of those games like Radford. The Highlanders and Bulldogs both went on the road to defeat Queens, but both fell to Furman. With both programs picked similarly in the preseason poll, Thursday's meeting will be a true test for both teams early on in conference play.

RHOADES CAUSING CHAOS
Maci Rhoades became the first Highlander this season to record five or more steals in a game last week when the team played at Clemson. The reigning Big South freshman of the week at the time played a team-high 35 minutes off the bench for the Highlanders, tying for the team lead in points as well with eight.

LALONDE'S SUCCESS AGAINST ASHEVILLE
Radford senior Rachel LaLonde has enjoyed her appearances against UNC Asheville across her career. LaLonde has totaled 46 points, 25 rebounds and 8 assists against the Bulldogs in her career across six games. During her freshmen season, LaLonde set a season-high in shots made at UNC Asheville and then scored double figures against the Bulldogs in her sophomore and junior seasons.
