HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Radford men's golf team began its 2022 spring season by shooting a +14 as a team in the first round of the Wexford Intercollegiate. The second round was suspended due to darkness and will be completed on Tuesday morning.
Playing on the Par 72, 6,913-yard course in South Carolina, the Highlanders used 302 strokes to complete the first 18 holes. They sit in 12
th following one round of action.
Seniors
Tyler Hull and
Nicholas Taliaferro led the way, each shooting +2 in the round. Hull offset five bogies with a trio of birdies, including back-to-back birdies on the 11
th and 12
th holes. Taliaferro also sunk three birdies, but was held back a bit by a double bogey on the 2
nd hole.
Sophomore
Bryce Corbett recorded a +4 thanks to birdies on the 2
nd and 6
th holes while
Hayden Miller posted a +6. The George Mason transfer matched Hull and Taliaferro with three birdies of his own, but struggled to avoid bogies down the stretch.
Patrick Gareiss rounded out the scoring with a +8 in the first round. He actually played better than his score would let on, knocking down one birdie and recording 12 par holes, but a triple bogey on the 4
th hole put a damper on his performance.
Host school Francis Marion leads the field after shooting a +1 (289) on its home course. Augusta's Alex van Wyk sits atop the individual leaderboard at -3.
