AKRON, Ohio – The Radford women's lacrosse team defeated Akron on the road 8-6 Sunday to earn their first victory of the year and move the team to 1-6 on the season.

The Highlanders opened the scoring with three goals in the first quarter.
Ashlyn Grogan,
Molly O'Brien and
Jessica Diorio all tallied goals with Diorio also notching an assist on O'Brien's marker.

After an Akron goal, Radford went on a 3-0 run in the second quarter with goals from
River Rupert,
Grace Gleason and
Margaret Gleason. Rupert's goal came in a woman-down situation while
Katie Carroll earned an assist on the
Grace Gleason score.
Olivia Hunter recorded 11 goals on 15 shots on goals in the first half for the Highlanders to enter halftime with a 6-4 lead.

Neither team managed a goal in the third period with Hunter collecting five more saves to total a new career high through only 45 minutes of play.

Carroll and
Grace Gleason both got their second goals of the game in the fourth quarter with Margaret assisting her sister to extend the lead to four with eight minutes remaining. The two goals proved to be enough as the Highlanders held on for the first victory of the season.

- Lauren Davis recorded just the 13th game in Radford history with four or more caused turnovers and the 13th game with six or more ground balls.
- The 18 saves from Olivia Hunter is tied for the second most in a game in school history only behind Maddie Bowman's record of 20.
- Radford scored eight goals from the sticks of seven players with four players (M. Gleason, G. Gleason, Diorio and Carroll) recording multiple points.
- Radford recorded nine fewer (15) shots on goal than Akron but made the most of them by converting on more than half.

The Highlanders have a bit of a break before returning to the road on March 30 to take on Longwood at 4 p.m.
