Highlanders Fall to Virginia Tech in Midweek Action 13-8

Both teams struck in the first inning, as Hokies' shortshop Tanner Schobel recorded an RBI single in the first to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Highlanders (12-24) then responded with a run-scoring single from third baseman Bradlee Preap, as shortshop David Bryant came home to tie the game.
After a pair of Tech runs in the third inning, Radford took the lead for the first time in the fourth, when center fielder Cameron Pittman checked in with an RBI single. Pittman had another productive day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a walk.
Right fielder Avery Spencer followed that up with a two-run single to give the Highlanders a 4-3 advantage. Second baseman Ty Dooley also drove in a run on a well-placed single to shortshop. It was part of a four-run inning for the home team.
However, Virginia Tech (25-9) took control from their, bursting out for eight runs in the fifth. The barrage was highlighted by a two-run double from Carson DeMartini, and a three-run homer off the bat of Schobel, who recorded five RBI on the night.
Henry Weycker (4-1) earned the victory for the Hokies, pitching three scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Derek Domecq (1-3) took the losing decision for Radford, as he was tagged for three runs across two innings of work.
