RADFORD, Va. — The Radford baseball team fell in an early hole as they dropped the series finale to UNC Asheville 12-2 on Sunday afternoon at Carter Memorial Stadium.
Radford (12-27, 6-12 Big South) had trouble generating offense, with just five hits on the day. However, right fielder Avery Spencer did produce, going 2-for-5.
The Highlanders got on the board in the third inning. With his team trailing 7-0, shortshop David Bryant poked an RBI single through the right side to drive in center fielder Cameron Pittman.
However, the deficit proved far too much to overcome, as UNC Asheville (16-20, 10-5 Big South) used three home runs to bolster their offense. Cameron Johnson hit a three-run blast in the third inning as part of a four-RBI day, while the Bulldogs added two solo shots in the ninth.
Jacob Edwards (6-3) was the winning pitcher for UNC Asheville, tossing seven innings and yielding just one earned run. Zach Davidson (1-3) took the loss for Radford, as he was tagged for seven runs in 2.1 innings.
NOTABLE STATS
The Highlanders will turn around for non-conference action as they host East Tennessee State on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
