HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Radford track & field program competed at day one of the Big South Outdoor Championships on Monday at the campus of High Point University.
Hannah Moran highlighted the day with her victory in the 10,000m.
After breaking the conference record in the event earlier in the season, Moran once again showed her class, dropping the field with two-kilometers to go to claim victory in 35:34.69.
Abby Seigel also competed in the 10,000m, finishing 11th in her first ever crack at the distance with a time of 37:44.35, good for fifth in Radford history. Moran was the lone scorer on the day for the Highlanders putting the team in a tie for sixth place with 10 points after a day.
Entering day two, however,
Maddie Wright is threatening to snag some more points for the Highlanders. Through four events in the heptathlon, Wright sits in fifth place with 2,469 points. Wright snagged a PR in the shot put with a throw of 9.55m (31-4) and matched her season best in the high jump at 1.40m (4-7). She is certainly poised to move in to podium position with three events remaining.
In the 1,500m,
MegAnne Gilmore and
Chloe Wellings moved on to Wednesday's final, going 2-3 in their heat with times of 4:39.35 and 4:39.78.
Bayle Wood and
Austin Swallow moved into sixth and ninth in school history in the hammer throw with distances of 46.33m (152-0) and 42.92m (140-10), respectively.

- Julia Burkley competed in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 1:05.89 against a star-studded field.
- Breauna Lane competed in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 26.05 seconds.
- Maddie Yancey competed in the 10,000m with a time of 41:12.63.

Quotable
"We had an exceptional day one," said Director of Track & Field
Shelli Sayers. "Everyone is performing-or-above their best and that's exactly what we asked them to do to keep things off. Now we have to keep it rolling... It was a big day for our throwers. We finally got to see them put the pieces together in a meet and show what we've been seeing in practice all season. I'm so proud of them both earning PRs and both moving into the top 10 (in school history)... I'm so happy for Hannah - this is her first championship on the track and when she put the hammer down no one was going to catch her... I'm also so proud of
Abby Seigel. The 10K is a beast and she went out there, put her nose in it, and ran a great time."
