Radford Falls in Season Opener

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer program fell to a tough Concord squad 2-1 on Thursday night in the team's season opener.
 
To start the game, Radford came bursting out the gates to put up an early lead just five minutes into the game. Kat Parris placed a pass perfectly to Skyler Prosser who was at the top of the box. Prosser placed it perfectly into the top right corner of the net for Radford's first goal of the season.

Four minutes later, though, Concord responded with a goal of their own to tie things up. The Radford offense kept putting the pressure on throughout the first half with two very close shots. In the 32nd minute, Parris had a shot bounce off the top woodwork and a couple minutes later Katelyn O'Donnell also had her shot ring off the post.

Radford would settle for a 1-1 tie at the half. In the second half, the Highlanders continued pressuring a Concord defense that just wouldn't break. The tie held until the 80th minute when Concord broke through with a three-on-one advantage in Highlander territory, securing the goal and 2-1 lead. That advantage would hold the rest of the way in a 2-1 final.

"I'm dissapointed with the loss, I think we started the game flat," commented head coach Ben Sohrabi. "Our second group that came on in the first half were very good. I think we just have to be more consistent and know what our responsibilties are. That being said, Concord is a very good team that went to the NCAA Quarterfinals last season. They're a team that can do that again this year."
 
Radford will have to rebound quickly as the team returns to Cupp Stadium this Sunday night to host George Mason.
