Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Offense Catches Fire and Defense Stands Strong in Win Over Wofford

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer program won their second straight match Sunday night with a 3-0 victory over Wofford. Three Highlanders combined for the three goals while the defense was excellent in the first shutout of the year.

Similar to Thursday night's offensive output at Hampton, the Highlanders' offense continued to fire on all cylinders tonight. The scoring effort began nine minutes into the match as Kayla Edwards secured her first ever goal with Radford. The Upper Marlboro, Md. native took a pass from Alexeis Kirnos and headed it overtop the goalie.

Up 1-0, Radford continued to search for more. The Highlanders dominated possession to the tune of nine corner kicks in the first half while allowing Wofford only one corner. Radford ripped off eight shots to the Terriers' two, with five of those shots on goal. The 1-0 advantage would hold into the break despite the early offensive attack.

In the second half, the shots finally began to land for Radford to break the game wide open. In the 72nd minute, Amy Swain doubled the Highlander lead with a magnificent shot from well outside the box. Five minutes later, sophomore Kat Parris scored her first goal of the season with a forceful kick just a few feet from the net. Sophomore Anais Oularbi set up both goals, earning two assists for her efforts.

With the 3-0 advantage it was easy sailing for Radford who earned the win in the muggy summer heat. Radford finished the night out-shooting Wofford 19-8 with a whopping 10 of those shots on goal. The Highlanders finished with 13 corners and held the visitors to just two. Trinity Veras got her first start of the season and made it count posting the clean sheet with five saves.

"After starting our first game of the season with a bit of a disappointing loss, I've been very proud with how this group has responded," commented head coach Ben Sohrabi. "Today's game we played extremely well, finished well and were very smart tactically with how we dealt with some of their changes. I was really happy to see our team get their first shutout of the season."

Radford will be back on the road later this week when they travel to Emmitsburg, Md. to face Mount St. Mary's. After that, the Highlanders return home for another Sunday night match-up, this time with Marshall. Fans will want to get to the game early as the first 100 in the gate will get a Radford Packing Bag.
