Swain Stays Hot, Highlanders Settle for Tie at Mount St. Mary’s

EMMITSBURG, MD. – The Radford women's soccer program finished with a 1-1 tie at Mount St. Mary's Thursday night as Amy Swain continued her hot streak with her third straight game with a goal.

Both squads had incredible defensive nights despite the goals given up on both ends. Radford outshot their opponent for the fifth straight game this season, with 17 shots tonight. The defense limited Mount St. Mary's to just seven shots despite a quick attacking offense that tested the backline multiple times.

Kennedy Dunnings, Helena Willson and Saleena Lynch all stood strong to keep the Mountaineers at bay defensively. Tied up at 0-0 coming into the second half, the Highlanders found their offensive stride. 12 of the team's 17 shots came in the second half as well as three more corners to add up to a total of seven on the night.

In the 64th minute, Radford finally broke the ice. Paige Olson crossed a perfect pass into the middle of the box from the far corner, finding Kat Parris who quickly passed it off to the open Swain. Swain faced just the goalie and won, securing her third goal in as many games for the Highlanders. The assist was Parris' third of the season (a team-best), while it was Olson's first appearance on the scoresheet this Fall with her first collegiate assist.

Mount St. Mary's found their equalizer in the 75th minute to tie the game up 1-1. Radford continued their attack until the final seconds, getting off multiple shots. With a corner kick lined up and just 30 seconds on the clock, Kayla Edwards and Alexeis Kirnos both got off headers that came inches away from game-winners. The tie would hold, moving Radford's record to 2-1-2 on the year.

"We have to be better at finishing a game when we are up a goal," commented head coach Ben Sohrabi. "This is two games on the road in a row we have let the opposing team tie when we were up. Overall I think we need to have more focus and do everything a level better."

Swain and the Highlanders have a pair of matches this upcoming week in the thick of nonconference play. On Thursday, Radford travels to Mount St. Mary's before returning to Cupp Stadium to host Marshall on Sunday.
