Late Goal Pushes Radford Over VMI in First Exhibition

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Radford women's soccer program opened up their 2022 campaign Tuesday afternoon with an exhibition victory, 1-0 over VMI.

The lone goal of the evening came off one of the nation's top scorers last season, Kat Parris, who weaved through four defenders to net the impressive goal. The Highlanders' offense put pressure on the Keydets all afternoon, totaling 19 shots with six coming on goal.

Radford battled the summer heat as well with just about everyone on the roster seeing some action across the 90 minutes. Amy Swain, Morgan Cheynet, Bianca Plowman and Parris all ripped off multiple shots while a stout defensive backline allowed just one VMI shot all game, which Trinity Veras collected for the lone save.

"Our approach today was to play everyone some but not many minutes for anyone," commented head coach Ben Sohrabi. "Our goal was to apply some of the principles we've been preaching in training and see them apply them in game situations. We saw some good things today but have plenty of room for improvement."

The Highlanders will be back in action later this week to conclude the preseason portion of their schedule. Radford hosts American on Friday night, with kick off slated for 7 p.m.
