RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's soccer team dropped their senior day weekend contest 3-0 against Gardner-Webb in the final home game of the regular season.
"This is a tough loss today coming off a huge win at Virginia Tech earlier in the week" said Head Coach Chris Barrett. "But the main thing is that we're still alive for a top four seed and we have to re-shift our focus to the biggest game of the year against Presbyterian on Wednesday. These guys haven't stopped working hard and believing in each other and the team and if we can continue to keep that fighting spirit will have a chance on Wednesday."
Before the start of the match, Radford recognized nine seniors this evening that devoted a great deal of their time into the program. Those seniors were Henry Moore, Tallon Allway, Endjick Albert, Chris Williams, Spencer Rawlins, Greg Harris, Jared Dubose, Alex Kryazhev and Noah Haddad.
As the game kicked off, the Runnin' Bulldogs were immediately deep in the attacking half. In the first four minutes of the match the Bulldogs were able to get off two shots at goal, but Alex Eydelman was able to make a critical save on one and the other just hit the crossbar to stay out of goal. However, in the 4th minute the Bulldogs were able to find the back of the net as Gardner-Webb's Santiago Hoyos just managed to put one past keeper Eydelman.
For the remainder of the first half it was a continuous back and forth, but the Bulldogs were able to get off four more shots with none that were threatening the keeper. Shady Hammam took a shot out from distance but that shot went way over goal and the scoreline remained at 1-0 heading into the break.
As five minutes went by in the second half the Highlanders went on a bit of a frenzy at goal as they were able to get off four shots in seven minutes in an attempt to find the equalizer against the Bulldogs, but nothing was able to find its way into the back of the net. In the 64th minute the Bulldogs were able to double the lead after Eydelman managed to a save a shot, but the Bulldogs' Pablo Brimeux came in with the cleanup to make the score 2-0. Gardner-Webb's Jaylen Orr tacked on another in the 77th minute for the Bulldogs to put it out of reach and end today's scoreline at 3-0.
