Spartanburg, S.C. – The women's and men's cross country teams recorded great times at the NCAA Southeast Regional this Friday, highlighted by
Joshua Daggett and
Chloe Wellings both charting the top-100.
The women raced first on the 6K course, with Wellings finishing first at 12:22.4 for the Highlanders to place 73rd among some of the southeast region's top talent.
MegAnne Gilmore was the next finisher with a time of 21:59.3. Both women found themselves earning a spot in Radford's record book.
Abby Seigel was the third to finish with a time of 22:29.5 with
Mackenzie Brownrigg not too far behind coming in at 22.44.7 for the Highlanders.
Kate McLearen came in at 22:56.9 and
Natalie Preston a few spots behind at 23:28.5, both set a personal best.
Kayla Fields rounded out the results on the women's side running 24:08.4 with her first regional appearance.
The personal records did not stop there as the men were the next to race.
Joshua Daggett was the top finisher for the Highlander men, with a 10K time of 31:07.4, which was over a minute better than his previous 10K record set at the 2021 regionals.
Luke Richards placed 124th with a time of 31:49.9, setting a personal record of his own.
Sam Sikora was the next to place with a time of 32:09.8 with
Maxton Sowers not too far earning a time of 34:31, both earning personal records.
Liam McDonald concluded the Radford men's team with another personal best of 35:44.8.
The two teams ran powerfully to end their cross country 2023 season. Now many of the runners will turn their focus to the indoor and outdoor track season beginning in a few short weeks.
