Corbett, Piatt Snag Top 10 Finishes At Wexford Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Finishing strong and tying for seventh place on the team leaderboard, the Radford men's golf team shot 12-over par on the final day of the Wexford Intercollegiate on Tuesday.

The Highlanders entered the day in a tie for eighth with Nicholls State, but the two teams went in opposite directions in the third round. Radford held strong to move up a spot and into a tie with Mercer while Nicholls fell all the way to 16^th.

This week's field was stacked with fellow Big South schools, including High Point (10^th), Charleston Southern (11^th), Winthrop (12^th), Gardner-Webb (14^th), and Presbyterian College (18^th). The results bode well for the Highlanders, who will see each of those teams at the conference championships in just two months.

Earning himself a top-five finish was junior Bryce Corbett, who shot a 1-over par 73 in the final round to end the week at +2. He added three more birdies to his tally in the final round, bringing his total to nine. Corbett shot -3 on Par 5s, tied for second best of anyone in the 90-golfer field.

Nathan Piatt rose 13 spots up the individual leaderboard, landing in a tie for eighth to give Radford a pair of top-10 finishes. He had his best round of the tournament on Tuesday, carding an even 72 with just one birdie, one bogey, and 16 pars.

Bobby Dudeck (T44th, +14), Patrick Gareiss (T66th, +19) and Nicholas Taliaferro (T73rd, +21) rounded out the rest of the scoring for the Highlanders. The trio sunk a combined eight birdies on the day.

As a team, Radford had the sixth-best performance on Par 5s, averaging 5.08 strokes for a +5. The Highlanders also tied for the third-most birdies of any team in the tournament with 40.

The squad has a couple weeks before hitting the road to St. Simons Island. Western Carolina will host the Sea Palms Invitational at Sea Palms Resort from Thursday, March 9 to Saturday, March 11.
