Women’s Basketball Ready for Big South Tournament in Charlotte

RADFORD, Va. – The postseason is here! Radford Women's Basketball has earned the fourth seed in the Big South Tournament and will begin play in the Quarterfinals on Thursday, March 2nd at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. Thanks to a thrilling victory over Presbyterian, Radford has advanced to the Semifinals and will face the top-seeded Gardner-Webb at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 4th.

TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Radford's visit to Charlotte, N.C. will mark the 34th time in program history the team has competed in the Big South Tournament. Over that span Radford has played in 68 tournament games compiling a dominant 43-25 overall record. No team in the Big South has more tournament wins than Radford. Weirdly enough, this will mark Radford's first-ever appearance as the fourth seed in the Big South Tournament. During the McGuire Decade, Radford has posted eight wins including two championship appearances and a tournament win in 2019.

POSTSEASON AWARDS
Two Highlanders earned awards in this season's Big South end of season awards list. Ashlyn Traylor highlighted by becoming the fourth player in women's basketball program history to earn Big South Freshman of the Year. Traylor was also named to the conference's second-team and all-freshman team. Vanessa Blake was named to the conference's all-academic team after a wonderful year on and off the court. RADFORD'S LEADERS
In the scoring department, the Highlanders are led by the freshman phenom Traylor who averages 12.7 ppg and has led the team in scoring 15 times this season. Traylor has eclipsed 20 points four times this season, another team-best mark. Senior Rachel LaLonde isn't far behind, averaging 9.3 ppg with 13 different 10+ point performances this season. Sophomores Vanessa Blake and Carmen Williams have also had superb years with each averaging over eight points a game.

Defensively, LaLonde has been Radford's best rebounder all year averaging 8.9 rpg. Blake is right there averaging 5.4 rpg while leading the team with a whopping 80 offensive rebounds. Traylor has led the stealing efforts this season with 60 while Wagner, Williams and LaLonde all have 35+. As a team, Radford ranks fourth in the Big South averaging 8.55 steals a game.

The Highlanders currently own top-five marks in the conference for multiple stat categories. Radford ranks fourth in scoring (62.8 ppg) and third in points allowed (61.0 ppg) which is good for a fourth-best ranking in average scoring margin (1.8). Radford is shooting 42% overall and 31% from three which both ranks fourth in the Big South. The team is also top-four in per game totals of blocks (3.17), steals (8.55), assists (12.97), defensive rebounds (27.9) and free throw percentage (69.9%).
