Women’s Tennis Cruises Over Monmouth in 5-2 Victory

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Radford women's tennis program picked up its first win of the season in a big way Thursday night with a 5-2 victory over Monmouth.
Radford's great night got off to an exciting start in a tightly contested doubles point. After the duo of Lexi Smolder and Camryn McClure picked up a 6-2 win on court three, it came down to a tiebreaker on the top flight. Emily Brandow and Rachel Ekanem, teaming up for the first time this spring, came up huge with a 7-6(6) win for the early 1-0 advantage.
In singles play Radford would cruise with four victories on the top four courts all in straight sets. Brandow picked up her first collegiate win on the top flight 6-4, 6-2. Lexi Smolder followed with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win on court two. Brooke Murphy also picked up a huge win on court three leaving no doubt 6-3, 6-4. To round out the victorious Highlanders it was Camryn McClure who won 6-4, 7-5 on court four.
The Highlanders will be back home in their match which is currently scheduled for next Sunday, March 12th at 11 a.m. against Wofford.
