RADFORD, Va. -- On a day that saw senior Highlander
Margaret Gleason tab her 100th career point, the Radford University women's lacrosse team dropped their first home conference game of the season against Big South foe Presbyterian, 14-5. A strong first half from the visitors proved to be the difference as the Blue Hose claimed the victory.
Presbyterian came out strong from the start, scoring the first six goals of the contest. It was
Ashlyn Grogan that put the Highlanders on the board when she scored her 15th goal of the campaign. Three more consecutive goals from the Blue Hose gave them an eight-goal advantage at the break.
The visitors opened the scoring with two goals in the second half before
Laura Ferko found the back of the net to cut into the lead. Presbyterian delivered the final blow of the third quarter and took a ten-goal advantage heading into the final 15 minutes play.
Gleason's first goal of the day came less than three minutes into the final frame. The Brentwood, Tenn. native then scored a few minutes later to collect the 100th point of her career. She scored the final two goals of the game, completing her hat trick, and now sits at 101 career points.
Gleason's fourth-quarter hat trick helped her pace her squad with three goals on the day. Grogan and Ferko each added one goal apiece. Junior goalkeeper
Olivia Hunter, fresh off being named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week, delivered with another double-digit save performance as she tallied 12 stops.
