Women’s Tennis Comes Up Just Short in Battle with Gardner-Webb

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's tennis program forced four courts to go to third sets Tuesday afternoon in a tight battle with Gardner-Webb before falling 6-1.
Radford got things going in doubles play with a great win on court three by the tandem of Lexi Smolder and Camryn McClure. Smolder and McClure battled early and came back to get a 7-5 win on court three. Gardner-Webb took the doubles point with wins on courts one and two.
Singles play was incredibly competitive between the two squads as four of six singles courts went three sets. Smolder stayed hot going into singles play as she led the way winning in straight sets on court three 6-3, 6-4.
Julia Abrams, Emily Brandow, Rachel Ekanem and Brooke Murphy all went three sets in their respective singles matches. The quartet of Highlanders played well, battling in the spring heat through multiple tiebreakers. Gardner-Webb would take the remaining courts and the match for the 6-1 final score.

The Highlanders go on the road for their final Big South match of the season later this week in Clinton, S.C. Radford and Presbyterian are set to face-off in a 1 p.m. first serve on Saturday, April 15th.
