HARRISONBURG, Va. — In what was head coach
Alex Guerra's return to his former ball club, the Radford baseball team fell to James Madison 9-3 on Wednesday evening at Veterans Memorial Park.
Radford (7-27) got the bats going quickly, scoring a run in each of the first three innings. In the first inning, the Highlanders capitalized on a fielding error by the JMU third baseman, allowing
Zack Whitacre to score.
In the second, right fielder
Paul Moore ripped an RBI double to right center that plated
Avery Spencer. It was the second straight game with a two-bagger for Moore.
Whitacre paced the Highlanders offense, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, including a solo home run in the third inning. In his first game back since Feb. 26, center fielder
Cameron Pittman wasted no time making an impact, collecting a pair of base hits.
The contest marked Guerra's return to Harrisonburg, where he served as an assistant coach for JMU from 2016-22. The Dukes (20-12) spoiled his reunion, scoring four runs in the fourth inning and tacking on additional runs in each of the final four frames.
Kevin Sculley was victorious on the mound for JMU, tossing three innings in his start.
Clay Clatterbaugh took the loss for the Highlanders.
