FARMVILLE, Va. — The Radford baseball team fell to Longwood 7-1 on a rainy Friday evening at Buddy Bolding Stadium in the series opener.
Radford (8-35, 0-16 Big South) was paced by center fielder
Cameron Pittman, who went 2-for-5 with a run and made several fine catches in the outfield.
In the first inning, the Highlanders got their lone run of the contest, as left fielder
Julian Rojas laced a ball to first base that deflected off the Longwood first baseman and snuck into right field, scoring Pittman.
Radford starter
Dylan Howard went five innings, allowing three earned runs while fanning three Longwood hitters. The visitors also got a scoreless relief appearance from
Landon Higgerson, who made his nation-leading 28th appearance of the year, tossing a 1-2-3 sixth inning.
Longwood (18-26, 7-12) starter Logan Berrier was the winning pitcher, going 5.1 innings, yielding one run and striking out five. Howard took the losing decision for Radford.

Due to inclement weather on Sunday, Radford will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m., with game two to follow approximately 40 minutes after game one.
