Highlanders Fall in Close Match Against Presbyterian

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's tennis program fell in a tough one Tuesday afternoon 6-1 to Presbyterian in a match that was much closer than the final score showed.

In doubles play just about all three courts were closely contested. At one point no team had a true advantage with scores of 4-4, 3-4, 4-4 on the three courts. Presbyterian gained the advantage, however, winning courts one and two for the 1-0 lead.

Singles play was more of the same in an intense meeting. Aditya Balsekar picked up one of his biggest wins of the season over his opponent on court two in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Presbyterian's fifth-year senior Max Benson had competed as the Blue Hose top court in previous years, and Aditya Balsekar was able to win almost all his serves en route to the big win.

After Presbyterian picked up a straight set win on court five, the rest of the evening's battles were tightly contested. Robert Hagen went three sets on court six, but fell to a comeback in the final set. Demis Taramonlis had a very skillful start to his match on court one, but also fell in a close third set. Two tiebreakers didn't break Dinos Raptis' way and Guilherme Severin made an incredible comeback after being down 4-1 in a decisive second set to force a third set before coming up just short.
