RADFORD, Va. — Despite overcoming a three-run deficit, the Radford baseball team was unable to hold on to a late lead as they fell to visiting High Point 12-7 on Friday evening at Carter Memorial Stadium.
Radford (7-23, 0-7 Big South) opened the scoring in the second inning, when
Austin Stalker led off the frame with a solo home run. For the day, Stalker went 1-for-3 with a pair of walks and two runs.
In the bottom of the fifth, with the Highlanders trailing 4-1, Radford got a rally started when shortstop
Sully Tibbs reached on an error. First baseman
Tanner Barrs would drive him in with an RBI single, setting the stage for a mammoth two-run homer by
Julian Rojas. It was Rojas' team-leading fourth homer of the season.
High Point (8-21, 2-8) would rally in the late innings, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh to reclaim the lead. Though the Highlanders scratched across several baserunners, it was not enough, as the home team was hampered by nine runners left on base.
Third baseman
Bannon Brazell was hot at the dish, going 2-for-5 with a run. On the pitching side, the Highlanders got four impressive outs from
Jacob Flicek, who struck out two and held the Panthers scoreless.
