RADFORD, Va. — A two-run homer from left fielder
Julian Rojas was not enough as the Radford baseball team fell to High Point 8-6 on Saturday afternoon at Carter Memorial Stadium.
It was the third straight game with a home run for the Highlanders' senior, who uncorked a two-run blast in the first inning that put Radford (7-25, 0-9 Big South) ahead 2-0 early. For the day, Rojas was 2-for-5 with a walk and two runs.
Later in the frame, catcher
Garrett Pancione tacked on an RBI single that scored
Austin Stalker, giving the home team a 3-0 lead.
High Point (10-21, 4-8) had a response, scoring four unanswered runs in the third and fourth inning. Radford, however, quickly came back. In the bottom of the fourth, third baseman
Bannon Brazell laced a two-run single up the middle to tie the game at 5-apiece. Soon after, Pancione would score on a throwing error by the Panthers' shortstop.
But High Point scored a run in each of the next three innings to reclaim the lead. The Panthers finished with 14 hits to Radford's eight. Cael Chatham led the way for the visitors with a 4-for-4 performance.
Reid Viar earned the win for High Point, pitching four scoreless innings.
Ty Burton took the loss for Radford, tossing three frames and allowing two earned runs.
