RADFORD, Va. – Tyler North has been hired as an assistant coach with the Radford volleyball program, Head Coach Sherisa Livingston announced Wednesday morning.
"I am very excited to have Tyler join our staff! He brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, competitive drive and energy that is integral to the leadership of our program," said Livingston. "It was obvious from the onset that Tyler would be someone that, without question, our student-athletes would immediately benefit from his leadership and commitment to their development, both individually and collectively."
Â
North makes his way to the New River Valley following six seasons as the head women's volleyball coach at Division III Thiel College.
Â
The Tomcats won 10 games in his first season at the helm, before improving to 14 games in his second year. North then guided his program through the numerous challenges that came during the COVID-19 pandemic and came out stronger on the other side, going 19-11 overall and 9-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) in 2022.
Â
Under his guidance, Thiel racked up 19 All-PAC honors as well as the PAC Newcomer of the Year award for outsider hitter Maria Torres in 2021.
Â
Before arriving at Thiel, North spent three seasons as the assistant women's volleyball coach at the College at Brockport, State University of New York. The Golden Eagles went 90-18 across his three years there, winning State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) titles in 2015 and 2016.Â
Â
Both conference championship teams made NCAA Tournament appearances with the 2016 team advancing all the way to the Sweet 16.
Â
Prior to his time at SUNY Brockport, North served as an assistant coach for the Iroquois Empire Volleyball Association High Performance Program and the Paradigm Volleyball Club. He also served as a coach for multiple volleyball camps and clinics, some of which were affiliated with USA Volleyball.
Â
North received a master's in athletic administration and a bachelor's in kinesiology from SUNY Brockport. He was a three-time state champion and two-year starter for SUNY Brockport's men's club volleyball team.
